Operator Licencing

When applying for an operators licence it is important to know what licence you will require. Are you carrying your own goods as part of your job? Are you carrying other peoples goods for hire or reward? Are you doing international hire and reward work?

Restricted licenses

These allow you to operate commercial vehicles but only for carriage of goods for your own course of work. Spotted easily by the orange disc on display. During the application phase of this licence some requirement are similar to the other 2 licences. However, a qualified transport manager is not required and it only requires a small amount of financial standing. That being said, It is strongly advised by the traffic commissioner that you have in place, someone with the expertise to manage your transport operations in the same respect as the other 2 licences. The Traffic Commissioner still expects you to carry out your operations with full compliance.

Standard National and Standard International

These allow you to operate commercial vehicles for hire or reward. They are spotted by their blue (national) and green (international) discs on display. The requirement for these 2 licences are the same with regards to financial standings and they do require a qualified transport manager.
